Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site of Canada With the snow-capped Olympic Mountains as a backdrop, Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites of Canada offer spectacular views of Juan de Fuca Strait and Esquimalt Harbour.

Located in a beautiful park-like setting 20 minutes from downtown Victoria, Fort Rodd Hill is one of the world’s best preserved 1890s coastal artillery forts.

Built to defend the Esquimalt naval base, the extensive fortifications include three gun batteries, underground magazines, command posts, barracks and searchlight emplacements. The Fisgard Lighthouse of 1860 was the first to throw light on Canada’s rugged west coast. Videos programs, modern exhibits, period refurnished rooms and displays of original artefacts tell the long and colourful history of these unique sites.
